There’s more interest in food and fresh produce than ever, yet there is very little interest in the hands that pick it. Food Chains reveals the human cost in our food supply and the complicity of the supermarket industry. Supermarkets earn $4 trillion globally and have tremendous power over the agricultural system. Over the past 30 years, they have drained revenue from their supply chain leaving farmworkers in poverty, working under dangerous, subhuman conditions. Yet most supermarkets take no responsibility for this. Food Chains focuses on an intrepid, highly lauded group of tomato pickers from Southern Florida – the CIW (Coalition of Immokalee Workers), who are revolutionizing farm labor.
